Chris Baker wins Season 19 Week 5, Tony Trippier 2nd, Hitendra Patel 3rd

BCPC Season 19, Game 5– Friday 13th April 2018

Week 5 of  the BCPC season 19 and this was an eagerly awaited one; What with the prior game being cancelled due to pretty bad snow.  The new date was chosen and wouldn’t you know it it would fall on Friday 13th!  Could the leaders edge away from the pack or would a bit of luck fall upon some of the players looking to pick up some last minute points as they headed ever closer to the penultimate game?

Pack leader Tom Cawley was having a night off and this would give the rest a chance to pick up some points in the chase down to the coveted BCPC champion trophy

Tonight’s game

22 started tonight’s game and all appeared quiet according to the WhatsApp for about for the first 2 levels and action only appeared at the 75/150 level.  Sensing the slow action;  Steve Healey did what he could from the Villa stands courtesy of Sky Sports.

By 21:00 Gaz Howard raise folds preflop with Queens as action gets saucy and what a fold it turned out to be.  3 remaining players get it in with Marc Ward trebling with his K/2 and Mooch manages to take short stack Ricky out 9’s vs 7’s.

Ricky was probably happy to go out early, what with the fact he could now get away with questioning over Madeleine McCann’s disappearance after posting a picture in the Whatsapp group 😀

Tod’s season was going from bad to worse and this would take place in the form of an all in against Bri.  Holding JQK Tod looked in fine shape with his QK.  That was until Bri turned over a 9T and that was goodnight Vienna for Tod.

Firday the 13th had officially come to bite Liam on the backside.  After raising it up to 550 with pocket Queens, Mr. Trippier shoves 3k on him in which Liam duly calls.  Tony turns over A/J.  The Queen on the river would see Liam hit a set, but that meant Tony made his straight!  Unlucky Liam

Claire Bailey was suffering from a bit of bad luck too on this very Friday 13th.  The girl that always hits the sets couldn’t manage one this time.  It didn’t matter though!  Gaz’s pocket 5’s no match for Claire’s 8’s!

Liam’s earlier Queen debacle had greatly affected his ability to carry on and his fate was sealed when his pocket 9’s all in ran in to the pocket 10’s of Kev Berrie which duly holds.

I’m not sure if Baker was concentrating in this pic or having a pooh, but either way seems a blog worthy addition…

Matt Cromwell had his best win ever whilst not even attending by way of winning a BAPWAC seat!  #BOYSONTOUR

Tony T’s gentle persuasion managed to talk Kev Berrie in to calling the hand below which left Berrie hanging by a thread.  Well played Tony!

Big hands and big times around 10:15pm  2 all ins and 3 callers in Kev, Charles and Bri. It would however be the latter Mr. Yates who managed to flop his set and meant a double take out.  Oh how Bri wished it was a bounty game!

Lady luck smiled on Rhoden this evening.  Her pocket 5’s up against pocket 6’s of England would mean she’d need a bit of that 18% luck to come right about now.  It only did and Laura picked up a set on the flop.  Luckily for Rhoden, Brian passed up his Q/2!

Brian, not content with his kill count for the evening took out Coshan for good measure

Final Table

The final table had arrived and Gaz mentioned that it was possible that H could now start to catch Cawley in an unexpected twist towards the final 2 game finale.  How would it pan out?

A special mention to Laura Rhoden who shows that her Poker brain is almost on a par as her Psychology one taking 8th position, her 6th final table in a row!  Well played squire!

The very next hand would see Bri out in 7th and not long after Matt McKinlay would exit the fold in 5th.

After midnight and any previous bad luck that H may have had on Friday 13th looked to have surpassed, doubling up at 12:20 and doing the same 2 minutes later just for good measure!

Maybe I spoke too soon?!

H gets it in against Mooch with A/J to Mooch’s J/10, BUT WAIT!  Did someone say straight?

Special mention to Matt McKinlay whose 7th grandchild had decided to enter the World about now.  Much love Matt!

Down to the final 2 and it would pit the wits of BCPC legend and all round nice guy Tony Trippier up against the poker prowess of Mr. Chris Baker.  But who would come out on top?

Well it was always going to be close and the final hand was no exception.  Mr. Trippier managed to flop a set, but with Baker turning the straight it was always going to go in.

Congratulations to all players and a big congratulations especially to Chris and Tony on their heads up.

Chris had this to say on his win:

“It’s an absolute pleasure to beat TT in to 2nd place and prove that I am much superior at the poker tables as well as being younger, taller and sexier.”

Don’t shoot the messenger Tone! 😀
