BCPC Season 23, Game 6 Friday 8th October 2021
It’s been a long break since game 5 just over 19 months ago and a lot has changed. The New Talbot, our home since inception has since closed and the Croft has tried to pick up where we left off as we all try to get back to some form of normality.
With that said 16 players managed to make the final game of the season with just a point separating Matt McKinlay (34) and Alex Bako (33), but a win and results going the right way could see any of the remaining 5 players all the way down to 7th place clinching the title on the night. These being
Matt Godwin (25)
Charles Mason (23)
Adam Phelan (21)
Nate Poulton (21)
Points before the off.
The chasing pack were rubbing their hands in delight; and it wasn’t for any food on offer… moreso Matt McKinlay the league leader had found himself out first on the night in 16th place which left it in the hands of the remaining 6
Phelan and Poulton’s outside dream of a title were over after exiting in 14th and 13th respectively.
Nic Rawlings would exit in 11th which would mean points make prizes time!
Charles Mason had done fantastically well managing to accumulate a massive 23 points out of only 2 games to sit him in 4th position prior to tonight’s game. He couldn’t unfortunately find a fniishing position higher than 10th on the night however which was good enough for 1 further point and effectively ended his title hopes. Maybe the history books would have been written differently had he have managed to make a few more games.
As it stood there was now just Matt Godwin and Alex Bako that could upset the apple cart and pip McKinlay to the coveted title, but could they do it?! Brian Yates appeared to be in the mix, but his 4th best result had already given him 3 points meaning even a win would only give him 12 additional for a total of 32.
It wasn’t to be for the former champion Matt Godwin as an 8th place finish and 3 points wasn’t enough to overtake McKinlay.
Bako was surely favourite to pip Matt to the post and finished 7th for 4 points! But wait! 4 of his previous games were better than that and so the points total was null and void meaning the title belonged to forme champ Matt McKinlay!
One by one they dropped off,
which left Brian Yates to battle heads up against Adam Sharples however it would be Sharples that would manage to take doen the 1st league victory at the Croft and BCPC’s new home.
Well done Adam who had this to say on his win. “”
Matt McKinlay had to say this on his season title “Well fort to myself I can go out 1st tonight give everyone a chance and get to win at least a cap (of crap) for the start of next season so it’s win win :-D”
Haha good thinking Batman and well done on the title sir!

And that ladies and gentleman bar a few loose ends is me Matt Cromwell signing off on the blog and wishing you all the very best of luck for season 24. If anyone would like to pick up on this and give back a little to the BCPC then I’m happy to give some training. It’s been a blast, but it’s my time to pass the reigns over to someone else.
Remember to check out the calendar of upcoming games and events. Big thanks Tod for spreadsheet data and Brian for newsletter.
