A new feature of these write-ups – Dickhead of the Night – the inaugural winner being Matt Wilson, slow playing kings to Gareth Howard only to then have to fold after two barrels from Gaz on an ace-high board. Doh!
Title contender Simon Smith had a bad one, his aces coming a cropper against queens.
Ditto Adam Phelan who ran his aces into Tod’s, er, fours. (Sorry.)
Chris Baker was fairing better. All in against Brian Yates with AK v AJ, the J-high flop didn’t look good but the K on the turn was miiiighty fine. Squeeky bum time against Gaz as well with AQ v AQ, but Gaz with the diamond on the 3-diamond board heading into the river…..no diamond – and breathe. Chris went on to finish 6th and regain top spot. (He went out against Brian – think Bri slow-rolled with Q8.)
Coming into the final table, Steve Healey, Matt Kay, Brian Yates and Tod Wood were the big stacks, and it pretty much stayed that way as they finished in the top 4. After Matt Kay got low Bri had a chance to knock him out with A3 against Matt’s TJ, but Matt spiked the J to double up.
Bri was then low and eventually went out with J9 v Tod’s KQ.
Tod finished third, check raising the turn all-in with top pair but Steve also had top paid and much better kicker. 🙂
But it was man of the moment Matt Kay who sealed victory after an epic heads-up battle.
