battle OF the CHAMPIONS MEMORIAL GAME
This prestigious event takes place on the first Friday in January of
each year and is contested by anyone who has won a live BCPC
game or a BCPC live Title, during the previous 12 calendar months.

This potentially gives up 24 possible players, although some
players will either win more than one game or, win a game and a
Title in the same season. Should anyone do this, then they would
only win one entry & one 10,000 starting stack in the game.
The prizepool for this game is made up of a 10% rake, which is
taken from all of the above games listed in black. For the red
listings, NO RAKE IS TAKEN and therefore, should the winner wish
to enter, he will pay a £30 fee, unless he wins another (raked) event.
Entry to this game is always optional for all qualifiers.
The 2023 Battle Of The Champions took place on January 5th with
15 players sitting down at the start and as befits such a prestigious
game, we didn’t lose a player until Level 6 and that was BEN
WHITAKER going out with a flopped set of 7’s vs ToNY
GRIFFITHS’ flopped set of Q’s!
Just minutes later we were down to 12 before MATT KAY became
the first player to win himself a seat, courtesy of the BCPC, by
rivering a Royal Flush.
DARREN RUMBOLD (28K) was starting to make his presence felt
now and by the start of Level 8, he was 2nd only to GARETH
HOWARD (30K) after taking out both MANDEEP SINGH & ANDRE
CROSSFIELD on the same hand. Soon after MATT KAY was K/O’d
by ADAM PHELAN, but minutes later a rivered set saw GAZ
eliminate adam to take 46,700 chips onto the Final Table.
When we went down to 6 players GAZ had moved it up to 63k,
which was 40% of the chips in play, but when STEVE HEALEY
became the Bubble Boy by exiting in 4th, GAZ, DAZ, & RICH
HUGHES all had very even stacks. The pivotal hand saw DAZ jam
pocket 8’s & GAZ make the call with K-J ….8 on the flop and GAZ is
3rd for £150.
So it was DAZ (99K) v RICH (66K) for the Title. A raise by Daz was
called by RICH and a 6-8-9 flop saw DAZ shove with RICH just
covered. RICH eventually made the call and showed 9-4 to
Darren’s K-Q. Aces on the turn and river were no help, leaving
RICH a 10/1 chippy. Soon afterwards, RICH (£386) completed the
job, denying DAZ (£230) his 3rd Title in 5 months.
After not winning in his first 46 attempts, RICH is now the BCPC
2023 Champion!
