Gareth Howard Wins Season 15 Week 1, Nic Rawlings 2nd, Chris Baker 3rd

BCPC Season 15, Game 1 – Friday 6 November 2015

Hey troops

Still struggling to do proper write-ups for these games due to the split nature of the tables, but never mind.

Season 15! Can’t believe this has been going since 2008.

A very warm welcome to this season’s new members. As I said on Facebook, they seem pretty good (doh).

We temporarily lost a few players this season as well, which is a shame, including current champion Laura Rhoden. AND the next game is in Dudley!

Tonight’s game

So, we experimented with one table in the mezzanine area and two down the bottom. I still think three down the bottom would be worth trying and they move the pool table to the mezzanine (which is where it used to be back in the day). Feedback on the night was the location was OK but it was too noisy. Knowing that the speakers could have been turned off might have been information worth having more towards the start of the evening. 🙂

The new faces did pretty well, all but Nic Cross just making the final table, Nic just missing out in 11th.

But it was Gareth Howard who sealed his second BCPC league win beating Nic Rawlings heads-up. BCPC stalwart Chris Baker came third and newcomer Liam Pickering also cashed in fourth.

3 Chris Baker 10

5 Mark England 6
6 Claire Thornton 5
7 Jay Scott 4
8 Simon Smith 3
9 Tod Wood 2
10 Tony Trippier(!) 1

Cash game

Mucho fun on the cash table, especially teaching Nic Cross the delights of Stomaha. 🙂 I love how, whatever we choose, the hand takes about 8 mins to actually play and then a further 10 mins to dissect who had what, who won the high hand, who won the low hand, agreeing the flush won the high, chips about to be shipped, and then hang on idiot boy here has a full house with twos over eights.

Wild cards have taken a back seat recently – bring them back I reckon. Maybe non-face-up one-eyed jacks are wild in Stomaha? The possibilities are endless.

TV

It’s all kicking off at the moment. I’m a big fan of [Season]watch, but Autumnwatch has finished now. Particular highlights were Martin Hughes-Games admitting he didn’t follow all of the nighttime red deer rut because he fell asleep, but that this evening he was going to keep it up all night.

The Walking Dead continues to be the best thing ever. Just watched Mr Robot and Hand of God, both pretty good but on Amazon Prime (booooo). Homeland is going great guns (love Carrie’s eyes) and Doctor Who has been brilliant for a while now. But best of all, my favourite show of last year is back: Detectorists (BBC4). If you like metal detecting and Simon and Garfunkel lookalikes, this is the sitcom for you.
