BCPC Season 13, Game 5 – Friday 13 March 2015
OK, I’ve been pretty shit getting the key information for these reports in the past but I’ve outdone myself this time. At the point of writing this I can’t even remember who finished in the top 10 and am waiting for Bri to email me the finishing positions.
Anyway, it was going to be an interesting game with Tod failing to score in game 4 meaning that Gaz as well as Tony G was in reach of his lead. And of course if Tod failed to score again and any one of the top 10 got a big result then it would be very close at the top.
The league positions going in to game 5 were:
| Position | Name | Pts |
| 1 | Tod Wood | 30 |
| 2 | Gareth Howard | 24 |
| 3 | Tony Griffiths | 22 |
| 4 | Adam Smith | 18 |
| 5 | Sean Priest | 15 |
| 6 | Matt Kay | 15 |
| 7 | Kevin Berrie | 15 |
| 8 | Kevin O’Driscoll | 12 |
| 9 | Brian Yates | 12 |
| 10 | Chris Baker | 10 |
The game was triple-chance.
Later
OK, finishing positions are in so we’re good to go.
Blinds um up
The feature table this week was in that weird space between the restaurant and the pub proper. Probably for the best as I’m not sure the diners would have appreciated the smell of burning plastic to go with their chicken madras.
Yes, Tony tried a number of vessels to compete with the reconstructed Hindu (probably?) statue now housing the Green Currant (Freakface) mwa ha ha, but the outcome was inevitable: FUCK THE CURRANT!
Scarred forever and in burning pain, I can’t quite see how that will make the currant more amenable to Tony’s luck at the tables, but we’ll see. (It certainly didn’t work in the current game as Tony left shortly after.)
In general it was carnage at the table. Some big hands clashed early on (e.g. Steve Redfern’s flopped two-pair vs Gaz’s flopped set) and a lot of the add-on chips were cashed in even before the end of level 1.
Two tables
Chris gave a textbook performance on how to make friends and influence people. 🙂 The commentary which followed most bets by other players was the to-the-point, “That’s bullshit.” There was lots of other commentary though. Dawn finally snapped with, “Will you quit chatting and start playing!” Lol. And let’s not even get into One-chip-raise-gate.
On the other table there’d been some jiggery-pokery with Q9 from Sean. Not sure what that was al about though.
Final table
Really can’t remember much of the hands here. Paul the lucky twat knocked me out with two pair (3s and 4s) on a queen-high board when I had the queen. It was obviously his night as he knocked two players out earlier on (Mooch and Adam) with QQ, hitting quads to scoop the high-hand jackpot. And he beat Gaz heads up with QJ vs QT on another queen-high board.
The top ten on the nigh were:
| Position | Name | Pts |
| 10th | Dawn Wilson | 1 |
| 9th | Graham Gorton | 2 |
| 8th | Adam Phelan | 3 |
| 7th | Tony Griffiths | 4 |
| 6th | Steve Healey | 5 |
| 5th | Sean Priest | 6 |
| 4th | Matt Kay | 8 |
| 3rd | Tod Wood | 10 |
| Runner-up | Gareth Howard | 12 |
| Winner | Paul Foy | 15 |
Captain Yates posted on Facebook: “CONGRATULATIONS TO PAUL FOY on winning tonight’s BCPC game to end a record run (probably never to be beaten) of 73 straight games without winning!! He must have been close to quitting over the last 12 barren seasons but he stuck at it. Well done, sir! 🙂
With one game to go the league looks like this:
| Position | Name | Pts |
| 1 | Tod Wood | 40 |
| 2 | Gareth Howard | 36 |
| 3 | Tony Griffiths | 26 |
| 4 | Paul Foy | 25 |
| 5 | Matt Kay | 23 |
| 6 | Sean Priest | 21 |
| 7 | Adam Smith | 18 |
| 8 | Kevin Berrie | 15 |
| 9 | Steve Healey | 13 |
| 10 | Kevin O’Driscoll | 12 |
So it looks like a two-horse race for the title but don’t discount Tony G who could become champion if he wins the final game. Gaz needs a sixth place finish or higher to have a chance, while Tod will be looking to looking to finish deep to remove any such mathematical shenanigans from the equation.
Next league game (and AGM)
