Kev Berrie Wins Season 17 Week 1, Matt McKinlay 2nd, Matt Wilson 3rd

BCPC Season 17, Game 1 – Friday 18 November 2016

Roll up! Roll up! Season 17 is here, and with 28 players it promises to be a cracker. Returning players are the legendary Matt McKinlay and the youthfully (though now 21, so can now legally gamble in Vegas) Jack Hipkiss.

New to the club we have Matt Cromwell, season 16 heads-up champion; Matt Price; and Tom Cawley. You are all very welcome.

Although we’ll have to start calling us the Matt Country Poker Club – 21% of our players are called Matt. Boom – stats!

Tonight’s game

Bountry game tonight – introduced last season, it was a big success so returns as a permanent fixture for the opening game of the season.

It’s been  a few seasons now that we’ve had two tables down the bottom of the pub and one up the top, but I’m still trying to think of ways to capture details of interesting hands and anything else worth noting. When I drink (like I did this week) then it’s game over. But I should be sober for the rest of the season so I think I’ll ask people in the breaks what’s been happening on their table.

This week, the footy was on – Brighton v Villa. I never realised how many Brighton fans we had in the club. 🙂

Simon Smith seemed to be playing well early doors (well, later doors as well) – making big turn and river bluffs to get made hands to fold (or betting with the nuts and getting calls). Tony T also seemed to play well. Then giot lucky with 22 against 3 players and hitting a set on the river. The luck turned the other way after that, though.

On the other table, both Kevs seemed to be doing well. When I joined, Kev O’D in particular was playing very aggressively, raising most pots.

In the end the blinds did their work and claimed the short stacks at the final table, and it was down to Kev B, Matt Wilson, Steve Healey and Matt McKinlay to battle it out for the win. Steve Healey fell 4th, but cashing so always good. Matt Wilson then followed for a very creditable 3rd. Matt McKinlay marked his return with send place – almost like he’d never been away. And Kev B popped his cherry with his first league win. Well played, sir!

Cash game

There weren’t many of us, but I really enjoyed the cash last night. Mark England’s ‘show a card on each street’ game was great (needs a name though – Tony G has suggested MESACOES), and the old dice variant made a welcome return. And Jack had a lovely paddy when his quads lost to my SF. :

TV

I’ve been catching up on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – if you liked 30 Rock, then you’ll like this.

Westworld is very good.

But of course it’s The Walking Dead that remains the absolute pinacle of TV drama. That Negan, he be a badass!
