BCPC TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024
The 12th BCPC Team Championships took place last Saturday with
21 teams competing. The numbers were down significantly for the
first time in many years, due mainly to clashes with a big
Grosvenor comp on the day and also, the LPPL Finals in a week’s
time.
Anyway, we had 4 BCPC teams competing and a total of 35 BCPC
members playing and in the first STT, 6 of these won their tables,
including Matt Kay (‘A’) & Amanda Smith (‘D’) on her debut in
this event.
Nate Poulton only finished 8th on his table but flopped this
beauty in Level One to collect the £100 prize donated by the BCPC !
Dave Whiteley was successful for the Wugga Chunterers as
was Steven Piddock, whose Ac7c hit runner-runner (below) to beat
BRIAN YATES Heads-Up & that extra 3 points gave the Wugga’s
the first round lead on 28 pts with BCPC ‘A’ on 23 & Malvern on 20.
Stoke Poker Club were the only team to score zero points.
Round 2 kicked off around 3.30pm and it was the Middlesex
Aubergines, led by Captain Kev O’Hanlon who were flying. Kev
became the only player to win both STT games but this time both
David Kingswell & ALEX BOLTON did likewise to push his team to
the top of the tree on 43 points, 2 ahead of Gary Peniket’s Fox
Force Five, for whom Darren O’Neill & MATT MCKINLAY won their
games.
With just 7 points separating the top 6 teams, we were likely going
to be in for a very tight finish in the MTT games and that was
exactly what transpired. When we reached the 10-handed Final
Tables, Middlesex had fallen out of contention but Fox Force Five,
Wugga Chunterers & Debs Donks all had 3 players left in while
BCPC ‘A’ had 2 & with both Blue Blood & Frome Poker Group still
having 4 players left, they could well still make significant moves
up the table.
Blue Blood went onto have 2nd, 3rd & 4th place finishers to just
miss out on the top 3 with 35 points scored being the highest total
in round 3.
Fox Force Five’s challenge ended when Darren Plenderleith was
eliminated in 3rd place but that was still good enough to secure
2nd spot overall. The winner would now come from the Heads-Up
battle between Michael Piercy (Debs Donks) & Che Ach (MPC) with
the loser getting 3rd place. Well it was Michael who won out and
also claimed the Individual Title in the process with JACK
HIPKISS & MATT CROMWELL on the winning team.
Of the 105 players who played this event, 42 cashed in some way
(40%) and NATE POULTON was the only BCPC amongst the 12
players who failed to score a single point while RORY FORD (3rd,
20pts) & CRAIG STANDEN (5th, 19pts) top scored.
The Club made a profit of £845 on the day to keep us ticking over
nicely throughout 2024 🙂
It was just left to Richard Clarke of 2023 Champions Kracked Kings
to hand over the trophy to Michael Piercy on behalf of Debs Donks.
